Black Majic works well also and I must have suffered a brain f art. Shapelys' (Duh') has about 5 different colours to choose from. If i do use shoe polish I take it off and put vaseline on it.

I have even seen pl use Sharpie black permanet marker in a pinch. I know one thing, saddle dyes stay on my hands for days if I get it on them. I would only do that on small dings, nicks and boo boos. A black cattle marker might work as well for temporary use.

Unless your going to a show I would not worry about it.

For black marks you can use ravens oil.

I have dyed our grey. Or his black bite marks.

Look around his hip area, you will see some of them. Black. Not even makeup would hide them.

After dyeing them blonde they were a very pale shade of yellow and easily hidden.

I had a Standardbred I used to show, and he was an ex-racer and had been pinfired. This little trick worked ever time.

I agree, I've never agreed with dying anything on horses. I personally don't mind a couple scars that may stand out a bit, or a sun bleached tail. If I get marked down for such small things, then that's the judges issue. Scars are scars, there not a big deal.

I wouldn't do it at all, but that's me...

... so you would rather do all this just so you don't have to give it a few sprays? You know even dyes wear off, they arn't "permanant" sure, you might have to do it more often, but it would be better then possably harming your horse.

I show on the A circuit, and my horse is a chesnut, and has scars on his chest from abuse. I just give it a few sprays, and we are good to go. And what do you show in?

Edit---> Idk, I just really think you should re-consider dying the horse's hair just for show purposes...And ^above me, your correct, a few scars shouldn't sway the judges opinun. A horse is a horse, and horses do injure themselves

Exactly, you wouldn't put make up on your five year old kid who got a cut on their face from rough housing just so others wouldn't think less of you would you?

I just think it's silly

Yeah I would stick with the shapley's...its not that hard to just give a quick spray before you go in the ring. I'd go with that because its safe and easy, I would think dying it is way too much trouble and risky. I use white spray on my pintos all the time and don't think its that hard. Besides, if you dye the hair, you'll just have to do it again when new hair grows out.

thank everyone. I've used the shapleys and the boot polish. And they worked fine. But what would be wrong with the natural dyes?

I mean...were not talking about putting harsh hair dye on my horse. I wouldnt even think of putting something harmful on him.

But i do know alot of people that do..and havent had a problem with it. Just figured that i'd try something new.

/shrug I don't see a problem with it either, natural dyes are a lot safer and better for the skin than regular dyes, i mean people bleach their white horses, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion, gotta respect that...
