![]() ![]() | Dyeing leather Does anyone know any catalogs that sell leather dye? I need to darken my old saddle a bit to match the new fenders and I think I will need to darken my set of light colored show tack. I have heard to use neatsfoot oil and then set it in the sun for a couple days to darken it, and I have heard to buy light dye and use it until it gets the color you want it. |

| Senior Moderator | Even if you try it on something old it will not be the same.. every piece of leather is different.. and age/quality can make a big difference in how it will take the dye. If you are going to change colors the only safe thing to do it dye it black(which will rub off if not done right), but if you really want to try you local saddle maker. Here are some online places that sell stuff.. http://63.251.139.218/leatherdyepaint.aspx http://www.leathermagic.com/Secure/e...log.asp?prdc=4 |

| Senior Member+ | I just use a darkening oil...it doesn't do anything SUPER drastic, but it definitley makes the leather darker. VERY easy to use, too. Just a thought, good luck! |

![]() | I use "Old English dark furniture oil" to cover scratches on my tack. It works really well on dark leather. I even use it on my boots. I don't know about dying a whole saddle with it though. |
