I would lean towards 'not' as it's not defined enough for me. I'd be excited to see what he/she/it shed out to, though, and hope that my 'not' was wrong.

Ill say probably to the first one and no to the second.

Although the color of the first one is red toned and looks like a red dun, I would say no as the stripe does not look like it attaches to the mane (although that could be the angle of the shot) and looks more like a counter shaded stripe, and the ear tips are not dark. I would think more of a red roan. BUT that is by going by looks of only two shots and not in person, and of course, not by pedigree. The second one...hmmmm, hard to tell by that one pic, but with just that pic and not a whole body shot, I would say "no" to that one also. |

I vote no on both. Dorsal isn't distinct enough IMO. That third pic looks like a baby deer coat!

I'd say wait a while.... as many foals are born with primitive markings.

First one could go either way, to young to guess without parents or pedigree. The second one - looks like a POA or app. Becaue of that it could easily be dun but the dorsal could be "undefined" due to the app characteristics. App patterns do wonky things to all colors. |

Without pedigree information, Yes to the first, no to the second.

For those that say the foal could just be countershading... she is clearly diluted so what would she be if it is countershading? The first has two supposedly grulla parents. No one has seen the sire but he is registered grulla (pedigree supports), and the dam looks more like a bay dun to me, if she is dun (stripe really looks more like countershading but her pedigree backs grulla). The interesting thing is there is some cream in the family that could have passed. Does this foal look palomino or dunalino to anyone? The second is an App adult. Her stripe is visible from every angle and it very inky looking going into her tail. Her hair is long in that photo but in summer coat the stripe is much more defined. Yes she has roaning and odd coloration on her back that could be fuzzing it. She does have a slightly diluted look to her coat with darker legs and head and in summertime her legs are very inky looking and some people say they can see barring. She has Mighty Bright not far back so it is certainly possible. ACC |
