That's odd that you were taught that as an eventer, because I don't do any straight dressage, and I've always been taught to simply drop the hand not holding the whip (after putting the reins in the whip hand, of course

Agreed, my trainer is a judge. Taught me to just drop my hand, just down and a little out- no up.

Yep, don't touch the helmet. I did that once, and my instructor was all 'NooO!! whata re you doing?? does it look like you're going into a jumping ring??' hehehe

Make sure you don't salute with your whip in your hand..automatic -2 right there

Hahahah at least I didn't do that

Now I am on the straight and narrow thanks to all the HGsers. Although I am pretty sure this show was our first and last of the year....

Don't do what I did. I was riding Sparks in a dressage practice day and in the final halt, she tried to snatch the reins out of my hands, so halfway through saluting, I changed my mind and slapped her across the neck. The pony stood to attention and I saluted red-faced. The judge commented "Nice salute"
