Dressage reins...

What's a good length?

How about for a short woman riding a 14.2 mare? I want to make my friend some, but I'm not sure how long to make them. 6.5ft? 7.5ft? ???

My EXTRA long plaited reins I use for HUS on 17-handers are 72" which is 6' and that's riding a horse with a long/low headset.

Standard sizes on English reins - dressage or otherwise - and + or - a couple inches are:

Cob/Arab - 51 inches each side / 101 inches total
Full Size - 55 inches each side/ 109 inches total
Warmblood Size - 62 inches each side / 123 inches total

Thats as buckled or hooked.

What a neat thing to make a friend! Are you making them out of leather or nylon or biothane or?
