Dressage judging went well.

Well as I previously posted, I was asked to judge a small gymkhana at my pony club over the weekend.

I was a little apprehensive, But i went ahead and I'm glad I did it.

It was only Prelim dressage as no one attended who would be doing higher.

The kids were all young girls, and many of them had never done dressage before, so i tried to be as nice as possible.

I had no complaints so i figure i did alright!!

One complaint from me though,
I wish that Callers would actually CALL the test, not try and tell the kid what to do.

Read what is written in front of you!!

I had about 60% of them make an error of course and get totally confused because the caller was not doing their job.
The kids were to young to learn the entire test by themselves and were dependent on the callers, so it was sad when i had to mark them down because they got lost.

Thats great Katie! Sounds like you enjoyed yourself and did a good job

The only thing now, is that they will probably be calling on you to do it all the time - bye bye weekends LOL

I will be riding the tests not judging them!!!
My sister is a dressage judge so she can do it, only thing is, she is hard on me

I like judging and all, but would rather be riding.

I am glad you did a good job. I knew you would.

Calling is an art. If I have to call for someone I like to run through the test with them before just to make sure they know how it works. There was one little girl who would always ask me to call her tests for her at the shows, her mother wasnt good enough apparantly.

So uou didn,t have to judge your sister?

No she decided not to ride as she would have had to have found a horse to babysit Viktor as he cannot be left on his own! silly goose.

So she pencilled for me.

Calling is an art, But the lady who was calling cannot be told, she is one of those people who know everything, or think they do anyway!

Sounds fun, my friend got to be a dressage judge for a grade 5 one day event. Judging sounds a lot more fun than pencilling(boring!).

That is awesome!

I wish more callers would pratice with the rider..
Yes it is a bit of an art, but practice and common sense
can go a long way...

You could always write a comment
