I think I've ridden first level test 3 maybe twice ever? Basically, if you can ride the 3rd test, you can do the 4th, and that's really the important one. (Used as qualifying for your USDF regional championships.)

That's a great article that I came across in one of my old Dressage Today's called "Are you showing at the right level?" It talks through what you should be doing before you move up. I've wanted to print it out and hand it to people several times, but I'm resisting the urge.

My coach insists we are ready for First Level. But, I'm like, why jump? I literally started this sport..um, SIX MONTHS ago?! LOL Stevey is VERY rusty with this stuff and its all new to me, so I'm really wanting to do it right. Thats why I did Intro my first show, (3 Firsts and High Point Champ that day!) Did Training at my 2nd and plan on 'testing out' of all 4 tests at Training before I move up. Whats the rush, right? I hate skipping steps in training and I feel like jumping levels is doing that..... its just right for me and Stevey to do it this way

I get a lot of "why do'nt you just move up" from people around the barn.... like there is shame in the level I'm on.... LOL Oh well...this hunter rider needs to SIT UP before I can move up! LMAO!!! **shrugs**

Get comfortable with the sport. First level will still be there in the spring!

Skipping tests within the level isn't a big deal...as long as you can be successful in the highest test of the level before moving on.
