I just did this somwhere else too

Donkey, jacka$$, burro... they're all the same pretty much, you get size differences, miniature donkey, sicillian donkey, mammoth donkey,

Donkey female is a Jenny or Jennet... donkey male is a Jack...

MULE ~ horse mom, jack (donkey) dad

Hinnie ~ horse dad, donkey mom

Male mule is a John, a female is a Molly...

Hinnies are a lot like Mules, but I think not as common... more people breed their mares to jacks than the other way around... I think hinnies are smaller though, they come out more the size of the donkey moms...

John mules do need to be gelded because they do feel the urges, etc.... they just don't have anything happen usually if they do mate... there have been cases of Molly mules giving birth though...

It is confusing! I had to re look everything over to make sure I did it right

The guy I bred my mare to with the Paint stud, he also breeds Mules... he wanted me to breed Coco to his Jack so bad, but I in NO WAY wanted a Mule! I like donkeys, I think they're adorable, but I just don't want a mule... So he grilled me on what's what about mules and donkeys

Actually hinnies are rare because most stallions do NOT want to breed a jenny. Additionally a jennys uterine pH is slightly different from a mares and it makes it more difficult for the horse sperm to make it alive to the egg.

There have been RARE cases of molly mules (mares) having given birth. one molly in particular was used in a case study at Texas A&M univeristy. She was bred once to a stallion and once to a jack. The foal by the stallion came out looking almost totaly horse like and the foal from the donkey came out looking donkey like.
Normally genetically the horse has a chromosome number of 64 and the donkey has a chromosome number of 62. then the chromosomes split properly the mule has a chromosome number of 63 making it sterile. However occassionally the chromosomes don't split exactly right and a mule may end up with an extra chromosome of 64 and then they become fertile.
