| Senior Member | On a few forums I have seen a few things about people breeding their dogs. It seems they haven't done health testing or they aren't trying to help "perfect" the breed or anything. Well I want to know if you had two dogs that could be bred, would you breed them? Would you health test them, would the parents have temperants like the breed is supposed to? I mean, why? Because they are cute? They are good dogs? I have been thinking alot about BYB breeders lately and have been getting irritated by my uncle who breeds Chihuahua's when he knows nothing about them. He bred his first Chi to her brother when she was under one year of age. I just don't understand WHY people breed when they absolutely don't need to. I don't really know why I posted this, I guess it is just more of a way for me to vent. Clarissa

| Senior Member+ | I have an intact male Siberian Husky. Why I haven't neutered him, lord only knows. I have no excuse. I have no real reason to keep him intact at this moment. My husband wants to breed. We do have an agreement, that if he is to breed, he will be hip dysplasia tested before he does. If positive, he will immediately undergo surgery to be neutered, no if's and or but's about it. IF he is ever bred, I prefer one that is negatively tested as well. I've had one siberian lady who knew about the show dogs, and while he is not "bulky" like the show dogs, he is a good representation otherwise. She never got back to me on his bloodlines....though i'm still interested in learning more before I let him touch a female. Though I have one female I would love to breed to that is neither registered nor tested that I know of. But I drool over thinking about the pups they would make. But it probably will remain a drooling idea. LMAO But I agree. Too many breeders out there do not take the time to learn about the breed and say "I breed for pets" HELLO!!!! There are PLENTY of pets out there. Even "show quality" dogs can be pets. those that don't cut it in the ring make EXCELLENT pets!!! Same goes for horses. it is a never ending argument and story.

| Senior Member+ | My family raised, bred and showed AKC Siberian Huskies professionally for years when I was growing up (until I turned 15 in 1986). All of the dogs that we bred were either champions or had points and were all screened for health disorders. My mom was very reputable and always did the right thing. It is disturbing to me, to say the least at people using breeding of any animal just to make money without any regard to the life/lives you are creating. On another note, same goes for people on welfare popping out 8 kids. |

I am glad that if he is bred will you will have him tested. I know nothing about Huskies but you might want to check into elbows too. The Pomeranian, Chihuahua, Yorkie breeders now drive me NUTS. I have yet to see one breeder who shows their dogs or does ANYTHING with them. If you know of a great breeder, PLEASE post it. LOL Clarissa

| Doggie Moderator | For me personally, I will never breed any of my dogs. They are my companions. I leave breeding to those who have the time and desire to do it right. As cute as puppies are, I would look at each one my dogs created as being a death sentence to a dog in the shelter that is already here. Health testing is bare minimum of what anyone who believes their dog is worthy of reproduction, should do.

| Senior Member+ | I would be more than happy to ask her, but she has been away from it since 86, wow 21 years!! Dosen't seem that long ago, good grief I am getting old. I will try to call her tomorrow and see what she says. I am sure bloodlines have changed since she really looked at any dogs. I will never forget my puppy took group at a show and it was narrowed down between me and a poodle for best in show. I was so nervous, I had to be like 12 showing against professional handlers. Sorry trip down memory lane. Anyway I will let you know. |

| Senior Member+ | I don't know if he has any family with points and I don't know how to look it up. I know he's been evaluated by one lady, and she liked him ALL but his "bulk". He is "slender" type, not broad. So he wouldn't hack it in a show. But he's a pulling fiend in the winter! LOL
