does it matter what side you get on your horse?

i don't think it matters what side of a horse you get, does it? All my horses are used of me getting on from any side and it doesn't effect them any.

it really doesnt matter...a horse should stand to be mounted from both sides becuz something might happen and you have to get up on the right side.

plus its a 'tradition' that dates back to the knights

The owner of the farm where I keep my horse always tells me to teach the young ones to be mounted and dismounted from both sides.. he used to ride in the mountains a lot, and says sometimes it's miles down on your left side.

I don't think it really matter's either, I think it is just tradition and etiquette to mount from the left, how ever you want a horse that is used to be mounted and dismounted from either sides.

I heard that since most knights were right handed, the swords were on their left, so they had to mount from the left to avoid the sheath (of the sword not the horse).

It's good for a horse to be able to be used to being mounted on from both sides. However, it's traditional to mount on the left.

My mare has a panic attack when I try to get on her off-side so I just get on the Left.

you should prolly work on that...even just by getting on the left side and getting off the right side and get her used to it. you never know when something will happen and you can only get on from the right side

I have trained my mare to let me get on and off from any side....and that includes from her butt....you just never know what kind of situations you could get into and how you might need to get on and off. The weird thing now is that she prefers that I get on her from the right!!
