I you want something to make it grow then go for the Mega-Tek. It contains a heap of proteins that are created small enough to go through all three layers of the hair folicule. (into where it is needed)

a lot of cheap shampoos, conditioners contain silicone. even human ones (It's like fast food for hair). Avoid this like the plague. Hair needs moisture and protein - then it will be healthy, and you will get less breakage and more growth. The Mega-Tek enables the hair shaft to pass moisture through it at 100 times the normal rate. MTG is also a hair regrowth. The active ingredient in that is Sulphur. It comes in an oil base and oil itself is not something that you really want to be putting on dry hair.

Dry, brittle, dull, breaking hair lacks moisture and protein within the hair shaft. Oil molecules are too large to get into the hair .. insteads it sits on the hair shaft and give you a nice shine ..

oil and water don't mix, so by covering in oil then you prevent any moisture getting into the hair. Fine if you have super moisture hair as then it will prevent any moisture from excaping, but I have yet to find a horse like that

My 18 month old filly has a tail that drags on the floor. I use Mega-Tek once a week on her and also a tail bag. now her mane is getting longer I shall put her in mane bags too. She has a full fly sheet with belly pad, neck cover and mask, so fly defence is not a problem

I mix the mega-Tek with 50 water and apply with a spray. I find that I get less build up then incase I over use it. When she comes in for grooming then I spray all her coat (1 - 2 a week)

I hope that helps

BB - so you just use the 50/50 water solution for the mane and it works just as well as applying it straight?

it depends on how much you put on I spray their manes and tails with it and have more even coverage then so IMO it works better. Nothing would be more effective as applying it neat but I am happy with the 50 / 50 mix.

if there is a blanket rub then yes I would use it neat but as just 'general maintenance' I use the spray.

Its made a huge difference with them under rugs - I have not noticed any loss to the mane with having their fly rugs on. (I uncovered Lunna and thought WOW - where that mane and tail come from LOL!!) If you look at my thread in the show results section you can see her mane and tail.

she is 18 months old and suffers from chronic sweet-itch. The lower half of her mane was rubbed raw in some places. now its really long and healthy.

oh and the way you can tell if hair is healthy is by the breakage. I use the mega-Tek and the survivor on myself.

I have very thick hair that is very dry. I used to get it cut every 6 weeks and by the 6th week it was really getting on my nerves with split ends and knots.

I had my hair cut on the 13th December, and my other appointment was last monday. I only had it cut to have some more layers put in, in all that time I could not fine one split end

makes you think huh!

I condition and braid my horse's tail then put in a sock of tail bag because her tail is so llllooonnnnggggg and thick and I don't want her stepping on her tail and break then ends.

For winter I give the tail one last bath before its too cold, and then I condition it and keep it in a tailbag all winter. In the summer it gets washed, and I try to keep a tailbag on, but I find myself hosing off my horses after riding and I get lazy with putting my tailbags back on, so they go without them a lot. Then their tails get washed and conditioned for shows.

Hey BB. So, when I get this "amazing" stuff, should I just mix a little in a spray bottle for the 50/50?

it depends what you are after BR are you in need of serious growth quickly, if so then use it neat. If you are after less breakage and just general good health then I find the spray is better. Try and get a good spray though.. not a squirty stream but more a spray/mist type.

If you spray them say between 1 - 3 times a week. After a while you will notice a big difference in the health and quality of the hair.

Too much protein or too much moisture is as bad as too little. You will find the hair stretches a lot and it looses it's internal structure, and ability to go back to where it should after being stretched, because it then becomes weaker and will break. I would not leave a heavy amount of moisturiser on hair over night.

hope that helps
