It's always fantastic when a horse [[or in your case, mule]] acts so nicely for you. I've got minis, and the very first time I had my younger one out in harness, he did so well that we were walking without my friend holding the lead rope by the end of the day. Biscuit has honestly never put a foot out of line while I've driven him -- even when we first put him in the cart, he just carried on as though he'd been doing it his whole life.

i wish i could work more. i ride mostly, don't get much chance to drive tho several years ago, i was living in a smaller, much older community where a few of The Old Boys still had working teams. i looked forward to every summer when they would get all tricked out in their harness and wagons, or plows, or cutters, or tedders, all of the old stuff. i was most priviliged to have been allowed to take the reins on many occasions. tho i think i like logging best, the tranquility of a good, strong, steady horse in front of a plow is understated. i miss it.

life is in the dirt, time to dig in and grow up : )

You can 'work' any horse(s) you want and it doesn't effect your Ammy/Non-Pro status UNLESS you take money or any renumeration for doing it - in other words - you don't get "paid" in any way..

I used to train and have raised a few foals as well. To me it is easier to train one you have raised because the trust issue has long been established on the ground. I've broken horses to drive and to ride, but most of my experience came from reschooling off track horses and problem horses made worse by bad riders.
