Does a horses mane quit...

growing after it gets a certain length? Or does it continue to grow? I want to get my horses mane really long if its possible.... I'll locate a picture, I saw of a horse on here that had a really long mane! OMG I loved it, and i want Dandys mane that long to.

Hrm. I'm not sure. Supposedly if you trim the ends every few months it's supposed to go faster, but there's many theories on that.

As long as you keep it healthy, and don't brush itwith a brush, I don't see why not. But some horses just never have a long mane or tail.

Regarding the theory you named, it's actually a myth. There is no way that trimming the ends of hair to grow faster since it grows from the roots rather than the ends. Yes, it works in bushes & other foliage, but hair & bushes tend to be different. It does, however, improve the hair's overall appearance.

But I have no idea if hair has a maximum length. I assume it does because we would have a lot more tripping horses otherwise.

Well Dandy had a mane that was long enough to completely wrap around his neck and ended at the roots. I want to get it that long again or longer! lol guess i'll just have to wait and see. I hardly ever brush out the mane.

It grows with good care I had a bay Arabian gelding that won Most Classis a couple years, he was a trooper. His mane I kept brainded with conditioner left on it and tied up and his tail was outrageous. I must find a photo of him for he could back u and walk all over it, it was always braided and tied up in a bag. I washed it weekly no matter what and conditioned it left on mane and tail conditioner, braided it up and tied it up so he could go out and play if sun was not out as he was a deep bay an did not want sun to bleach him, his tail laid on the ground when he entered the ring somebody was always holding it up till I aid OK, he had the biggest floating trot and held the tail so high it was just so flowling and gorgeously black. It was alot of work but how I did enjoy Sly. He won so many first in Halter, not a good mover in pleasure managed some Western Points but Halter hard to beat, just gorgeous. His mane was so long it hung below his neck.

I think that most horse's manes keep growing, although my mini horse has a really short mane that won't grow. i heard about a horse that had the longest mane ever, it was 18 ft. long . i've never seen pics so i do'nt know if its really true or not, but it sounds cool. i am going to try to find pics later so i can post them.

I think they do keep growing but it takes time.

I know a highland pony with a mane, and I kid you not, to her knees.
