Do NOT feel silly wearing a helmet. The ones who arent should be feeling silly. I always say "It's better to be safe than sorry", esc. when talking about horses.

Always as a new rider, you should wear a helmet. I've been riding for 10 years and I still wear one. It's the safe thing to do.

Now lets not start calling others names.. though silly isn't a name really. This is about what you do not what others do. I agree that you should not feel silly or geeky for wearing a helmet. But I do not think that saying people who do not wear them are a so and so is right either.

I'm sorry, but I think it is just plain stupid not too. why fall off and hurt your brain, and be damaged in the head, and not be able to ride again, instead of just quickly putting on a helmet. If I ride without mine (expect in shows) like SkyeTiger said, I feel naked, like something is missing. And it is just like putting a seatbelt in a car, some people think it isn't cool, so they won't do it. But it isn't cool if you die when you get throw from your car, so then risk not being cool, and live to see tomorrow.
Once again I do not think that you have any right to call us stupid for our decisions. This is about personal choice. We have that choice to make and we will make it. I personally do not like being called stupid. So if you would please refrain that would be nice

Also... if you are so adament about weraing one then why is WP an exception? Because you will look dumb (i mean you think that not me mind you I have done WP in a helmet)? You never know what a horse is going to do ANYWHEER that includes the WP ring. So you are being a hypocrite in that sense.

I always wear one, ALWAYS. Unless Im riding Rusty up from the paddock because I dont have one with me.

It doesnt matter to me if Im te only one in the group wearing one. Im glad Im somewhat safer. Like the other fulltime helmet wearers, i feel naked without mine.

I find it humorous when people are calling us who don't wear helmets "stupid", and then you look at their profile or pics and there they are riding without a helmet.

Yes some may be hypocrites... but we all do that sometimes because hey I have ridden my 5 year old without a helmet and I also have ridden in a WP cleass with one along with SS as well but that was by force I might add (4H rules)

Everyone is entitled to their opinions whether we agree with them or not. But no one is entitled to bashing anyone else. I try not to though sometimes my fingers type before my brain thinks.

I wear my helmet most of the time, but on my older horse it doesn't bother me too much if I'm not. But I think its much better to wear a helmet- horses are unpredictable and its never good to be unprepared.

For example, theres some Pony Club grounds down the road from me and a teenager had just finished riding there and was riding home when her usually very quiet horse spooked at a pig.

Sadly the girl was wearing a helmet, but without the strap done up, and as she was falling off the horse the helmet came off and she hit her head on the road. She died almost instantly and her mother who was driving home from work was the one who found her... sad, huh?

My mum is always telling me this story whenever I'm not wearing a helmet, and I have to agree that a helmet is safer. Its saved my life once, and I bet its saved yours too!

WOHA little rider back up. haha just so you know, saying something is silly isn't calling names. Nor is it bad. And in the picture on which I'm sitting on my horse, I was not riding. I jumped on him real quick to get that shot. NO RIDING. So really you guys are being rude, and jumping all over me. CHILL OUT. I was making a statement, if you want to ride with out one, be my guest. I DON'T CARE. And I guess I should have said you guys aren't stupid, your decsions are, bad judgement i suppose.

I would wear a helmet while showing in WP, but I wear my cowboy hat which matches my outfit. --sorry, but I know almost everyone does that. Just seems to me like when your barrel racing, trail riding etc. It is more important or wear a helmet. Otherwise I would wear a helmet in WP, and I think I'm quite aware of what a horse can do. haha no need to tell me, but thanks!!!!!!!!!!
