Do You Use A Name Brand?

Last year when I was doing my judging for 4-H the judge asked what kind of shampoo or soap I used to wash my horse. I was being truthful and said shampoo that my aunt gave us because it doesn't cost anything. She counted it against me!! I don't know why but I don't think it matters what brand or if you use horsey shampoo, it's not going to hurt the horse. Our horses like because it smells like apples. For what we use our horses for I don't think it really matters. I don't think it was right for her to count it against me. So do you use a name brand or horsey shampoo on your horses??

I kinda just use whatever I have one hand.

Sometimes I have Mane-N-Tail brand sometimes I just have a scuzzy old bottle of 99 cent Suave.

Are you wanting to know if we use a "horse brand" shampoo or just any kind?

I have a big bottle of Eqyss Shampoo. I don't use all that much... just a squirt or two in a bucket of water.... so it lasts forever.

I have heard (not sure if it's true across the board) that human shampoo is the wrong ph and can cause some horses to have dry/flakey skin.

I also wanted to add that my ponies don't get baths with shampoo more than once or twice a year

That seems like a strange question to ask, but perhaps she saw a problem with your horse's skin or coat that made her wonder if it was due to the type of shampoo you use? I know my hair gets fried if I use the wrong kind of shampoo, so I spring for the good stuff, and do the same for my horse. Especially since it's their whole body being shampooed, I would hate to use something that resulted in them being itchy or having dry skin.

I mostly stick to name brands because I know how they work... But I will try something new if I know the materials that are used.

I like Cowboy Magic, but to be quite honest, I use Suave lol. For aftercare, I am all about the Show Sheen, though.

Infusium 23 = much love from me and my horse's tail. It's a human leave-in detangler and conditioner.

For everything else, Mane 'N Tail because it's easy to get and comes in big gallons.
