I suppose a better question would be how many breeders actually know for a fact that this is what they are doing and still do it. For instance I was lied to by a stallion owner... She claimed that her tobiano stallion was only tobiano when he was actually tovero. I got lucky and my foal was born and fine. This poll is not going to change anything or help others get it. Like any other disease HYPP, HERDA, etc. there are always going to be those that breed it because of what they feel it produces. I suppose my question would be what is this poll supposed to do or prove, RMT? |

I said no. I wouldnt take the chance. I've seen a result of it and know the outcome.I also saw how devastated the mare and foal's owner was. She was uniformed about the disease and bred the mare without testing her. Though she did breed the mare back to the same stally because of the LFG. This I didnt approve of becasue of the risk. Luckily the baby was fine and did not have lethal white.

Yes but the people that County is talking about will not be part of this poll... That was my point. How many people who do not care about horses, meaning the general public, will be voting?

And why do you care so much what I post a poll about? What does it matter what I post a poll about? Who cares if its do you prefer bays or purples?

I wouldn't breed two LWO carriers together, and I don't think it's ok. Just like the HYPP deal. I'd rather up my chances of getting a healthy foal than take a gamble...but that's just me.

I won't breed a horse that's even a known carrier to a known non-carrier. I don't feel that you should. IMO you can do away with the need for all these tests (any genetic disease) by simply not breeding carriers. The gene won't get passed on and there will be no carriers even. And then those that don't know about the disease won't ever have to worry about it. There's really no need to breed a carrier of anything, you can get the same without doing so. That's just the way I feel. I won't do it. If you want to, go for it, but I won't be buying or encouraging anyone else to buy your stock, no matter how 'good' it looks. To me a horse that is a carrier of genetic disease has a worse fault than being sicklehocked, twisty legged, long necked, short backed mess of a horse. The genetic disease is a way worse fault than all of those and more put together. Everyone thinks differently and this is just my views on it. |

Is itOK? Yes it is actually very much so, I wouldn't do it but if the owners of the horses involved choose to do so theres no law or rule saying they can't.

I would never breed two known carries together. It's not worth the risk and the time/money involved to get a dead/soon to be dead foal out of it. ETA: That doesn't mean I believe in not breeding leathal white all together. Breeding a carrier to a non-carrier is fine with me. I have a OLWS carrier out in my backyard right now who's pregnant.
