Do you have those good rider bad rider days?

Where some days you feel like a good rider, where you have full control over your postion and you get really good work out of your horse, but it just happens so easily? Where its such an easy ride where you positively influence the horse to work well, where you are riding so effectively?

THEN

Those other days where nothing seems to go right. Where you just have no control over your legs or arms, or upper body - whatever it is, and try as you might you can't get anything out of the horse?

This happens to me all the time - with both of them...more bad days then good of course

Today I had such a great ride...my horse just worked brilliantly and I felt that I rode really well - it was just so easy.

Though the other day when I rode him it was a big screaming mess...my legs were move a lot in rise trot and it was like I had no control over them! I pulled out every trick in the book to better it and to get my horse to work better but to no avail.

I HATE those really bad days, but I really really LOVE those easy days!

You mean the bad days when you wonder what happened to all the lesson hours you had??? HAHA I have them all the time...sometimes things just don't work Those bad days are when I take my horse for a stroll down the road
But I have to agree,,,,the days that things do work are just fabulous

Yup, those are the days Kellidahorse

I'm with you on the strolls - when I know that I have no chance of good work that day and have tried for long enough, i'll quickly end on a good note and go for a long walk, trail ride or gallop!

thats what makes a person a good rider...knowing when to quit. its not giving up, its just choosing your battles. Sometimes its better to work on walking nicely that day instead of a pirouette I think our horses have an amazing power to let us know when they need a break...and its up to us to listen to it.
Ever notice that your horse usually only misbehaves when you are riding poorly? me too! haha (sometimes its every day!)

Absolutely! There are days when I would feel so in sync with my horse that we worked perfectly! I remember one instance in particular I think about all the time..... My old gelding Chief and I were doing the Cross Country training course bareback, It was one of those perfect days where we were completely in tune with eachother, like we were reading eachothers thoughts and knew what was going to happen before it was executed. It was a wonderful ride and then after one of the jumps a pig ran out about 20 feet from us and Chief shyed sideways and bucked a good few bucks... we were so 'in tune' though that it was like I was a part of him. I stayed completely seated (bareback mind you) I never even had to grab mane to stay on, we just went right back into our course and it was like nothing had ever happened!
I was so excided about how in tune we were when I got home! I couldnt wait to work that course again ... LOL it was about a week later that we were able to get out to that course again though, and we were completely OUT of sync LOL I felt like I could barely sit a trot! I remember falling behind after the 2nd jump and patting him on the neck and going back up to the barn knowing that it wasn't going to be even close to the ride we had had the other day... and most definately wasnt a day we should be working that course bareback! LOL we were most definately on an off day.

Yep, I have days when Bones/Wish could go fully saddlebronc with me and it feels like I could sit there yawning, looking at the scenery waiting for them to stop.

Then there are other days when they could f.art (i think I have a problem ) or sneeze too hard and Id be off.

I dont come off often, but I definately feel alot more secure and to be riding better some days than others.

Sunday just gone I had a great ride on Wish, I felt to be riding beautifully, everything that was supposed to move did, and everything that was supposed to stay still did as well, and I got some great work out of him.

Admittedly he is still green, and was looking like a giraffe on heat at some points, but I felt really strong as a rider and got him threw it.

Other days I am so un-co I cant get it together on a pushbutton old schoolmaster

Definetly, who doesn't have those days? haha.
Sometimes I have an awesome ride and can get the horse to do whatever I want with what feels like no problem..
then their are the bad days when I cant get him to anything properly, haha.

Yep, I've had those days. More than once I have driven over to ride, get the boys tacked up, but I know something is off so we end up going for a swim, or a nice trail ride.

I have a "bad riding day" every time I try to ride in an English saddle!
