I'm a little inbetween two. I know how to braid, but I don't do it very well so I pay my trainer to (she's amazing!). This summer though, I'm going to practice a lot until I get good enough so I can do it myself to relieve my trainer - depending on the event, she'll do 9-12 manes and her fingers get really sore.

I have reiners so I do not have to do any of that for shows... we keep our manes/tails in long braids much of the time to keep it from getting tangled. If something gets done I do it myself. LOL

If I do braid/ band, I definitely do it myself. Thinking about it now, it almost seems like cheating in a show by having a professional braid for you since the judge is judging YOU and YOUR horse's appearance/ grooming skills-- not how much you paid to have someone else do the work for you. Just a random thought...

I have braided for other people the same night that someone has braided for me!

I never had a groom (not boohooing, just stating a fact). Having someone braid for me was a luxury I gave myself. I braided for myself a few times, but most often I would go earn some money braiding other people's horses and come to load up in the morning welcomed by a newly braided pony. The braiding fairy visited!

I always braid myself. I'm pathetic when I braid with elastics, I always braid with thread even if its just schooling shows. I'd say i'm good at it, but like I couldn't braid if I ever showed and A circuit show, they aren't THAT good. But yea... since I don't I always braid myself

I know how, and do a decent job, BUT I am usually showing 2-3 horses at any given show, AND schooling students. If I braided myself, I would never leave the show grounds. I pay someone so I can be in bed before midnight and try to get some rest before the usual 6 a.m. arrival at the grounds the next morning...

Sometimes I braid, but other times I pay someone else because it just can become too much of a hassle if I am riding too many horses

Ick lol I'm no good at braiding and I go to the very small shows so I just let my horse's mane grow out. She's quite a little terd when I try and pull her mane plus I think she looks dumb with a short mane anyways lol. I think it does look good though when horses are braided. I just do the spider-webby-looking thing with her mane when I do go to shows. If I were to consider going to an "A" show I'd most likely pull her short and hire a braider.
