Do they remember?

I'm not sure if Blackie & Jacqueline remember each other. I let them sniff each other this morning. Jacqueline sqeaked a little. They just kept nosing each other for about a minute then Jacqueline bit her lol. Do you think she remembers?

I bet she remembers. The havn't been away from each other for that long, and horses often have an uncanny sense of memory. I bet she's just acting differently because she's gotten used to having her momma away, and doesn't mind so much anymore. She's probably just starting to think of her as more of another horse than one of special relation though.

Oh, how cute - I know you are glad to have her home again. She probably does remember. I know my neighbor brough his mare home after weaning his colt and the colt actually tried to nurse again.

Yes they remember wether or not they nuzzle each other a lot or not. Or if Mom and baby does or doesn't take up their old Mom and baby roles. Horses have excellent memories! If you look at horses left in a natural herd. If the mare has a colt and he ends up staying with the herd, which is unusual, but if he does he will breed all the other mares but will never breed his mother. So they do remember who their momma's are.

How about a horse that has a bad incident with a man wearing a bright blue pair of gloves as a 3month old. Never sees a similar man or pair of gloves for years but at the age of 28 the horse sees a man wearing blue gloves and freaks out. Instances like this have proven to us that horses have excellent memories so how could they forget the sight, smell, personality of a mare that they have spent months with?

I know they remember people a lot of times. Im not so sure about horses though. While they were awat from each each other think they may have just come accustomed to not having each other.. They be attached in no time im sure
