We cant find a saddle with a changable gullet that is in our price range, but we'll keep looking.

Thanyou again for the comments.
I REALLY don't think that saddle has a wide tree! You should try to send it back if you can. It has the narrowest channel I've ever seen!

What kind of price range are you looking at? Are you really wanting an all-purpose, jump, or dressage? I might be able to help you find something!

This one might be TOO wide. This is a great brand though. You can email the seller with a description of your mare and usually they will let you know if they think it will work.

You really can't go wrong with this brand!

This is a decent brand. I've heard these are nice.

Here's a traditional dressage:

The width of the tree is fairly independent of the width of the channel. It's entirely possible to have a super wide tree, yet have next to nothing in the way of channel width or vertical clearance. And, even if a channel starts out wide on a wide tree, it's not uncommon to see that channel narrow (too much) as it gets to the back of the saddle

Maybe that saddle is indeed a wide - wide for *that* model. That does not mean it was nearly wide enough. That doesn't mean another make of saddle in a wide won't be wider than, or not as wide as, this one. There is no standard. Narrow, medium, wide are all relative to that particular model. And even if the beginning width of the tree, and the ending width post-stuffing, are the same, one "wide" can fit a lot more narrow than the next if it has long tree points.

Yes, I know the "width" is technically nothing more then the measurement between the two points of the tree, but I still don't think that saddle could be considered a wide in any sense of the word. In addition to the unbelievably narrow channel, the pommel is literally hovering above the mare's withers by a good 4-5 inches.

Most people have a certain expectation for how a wide saddle should fit in these areas in addition to the width between the tree points. This saddle does not even come close to fitting like any other wide saddle I've ever seen. (And I went through at least a dozen different brands while searching for one to fit my mare.)

I would be extremely upset upon seeing that saddle in person if it was described in the ebay ad as having a wide tree. Differences among manufacturers are expected within reason, I would not consider that saddle's fit to be reasonable for any saddle touted as being a wide.

I guess what I'm getting at is this: I'd send that thing right back to the seller along with a note telling them where to stick it!

Oh, I agree, I can't fathom it being a wide either. Narrow more likely, MAYBE regular/medium.

I have seen a very cheap saddle (like in those $250 packages for saddle, bridle, girth, leathers, stirrups) that were supposed to be a "wide" tree that had a channel about as wide as a pencil

YIKES. I think what's worse is I've actually seen saddles like that being USED before!

They might work great for those rare horses that are missing a dimension...

LOLOL!!! Those saddles are just terrible beyond belief. I'm convinced they have so much stuffing, narrowing the channel, because the tree is so fragile

eek. tough situation. see if you can take some from the side and lift up the saddle flap a bit so you can show how it fits at the shoulder.

I'm looking for a dressage saddle because of her odd shape, she throws my legs forward and I need something with straight flaps to help my leg position.
Thankyou
