It's not that sensitive I'm afraid, this takes at least 10 seconds before the horse is effected..

Is there anything better than a cowbell ?

Why would ya put something like that? even if you were just joking. I dont get it is it suppose to be funny? or smart a** ?
On another note...I still dont understand the tap well enough to even think about trying it! It sounds way to scary for me on my own. And with all these things ppl are asking , I cant get it straight! And when I start horses under saddle in the spring again, I love to work with them, and yeah even if it takes 50 days of training. I never tell an owner let me have them for 30 days...theres no way that I can always get it done in just 30 days...things come up and/or it rains. what if i dont get them done..then im not gonna charge them more! ne ways, I love the time I get to spend with them. The last little mare my husband and I started under saddle had a big turn around! on the 1st day she came she would even charge at me! now I know the last thing a carrot see's!!!! with me holding onto the lead rope she would even turn her butt towards me and try to kick me! 2 days later...different horse..she even showed a side of her noone knew...she is quite the loving horse. loves to go on rides. very smart! dosent like to be left behind...rides the trails like a pro! and I brought that out of her, she had it in her but noone would take the time to let her be that way.she loves ppl! If i hadent had 3 horses(2 mares and 1 2yr old stud) I would have loved to buy her. she has cow cutting bloodlines, and is small, but built very well! ok back to the tap...I feel that if i use this then i wont be spending the time i love with the horses...I dont wanna use a quick method unless for emergencys! then I would..you never know what can happen, on the trail, or what have ya! I think it would be useful to know for those emergencies. but as for training technics ...well not for me.

Don't some of you think that you would like to learn it just maybe for emergencies????

Do not try this at home !!

I have sat back and read this thread as it has progressed and laughed and cringed away from some of the comments. Peg D it is good to see that your horse will no longer be a danger to anyone and will not need to be "overpowered" to allow the farrier to attend it's feet.(perhaps the lesson here is early training is essential and when not done correctly then the horse faces an unhappy and uncertain future).
There was comment made as regard rescue organisations finding this method advantageous.Being heavily involved in rescue and retraining I feel the mental trauma this would cause an already traumatised horse to be totally unacceptable, and all staff have been informed that anyone trying this proceedure will be dismissed instantly(paid or volunteer staff alike).
This procedure is nothing new. It has been spruked about in various forms for quite a time.Whilst there is some evidence that it has effect (to varying degrees) on a majority of horses (not all),it has also been recorded that when it really counts it is useless.
Endorphins have an effect on a calm to mildly agitated horse but a severly agitated horse is driven by adrenelin and instinct the two systems do not work against each other (it would be like using the accelerator and brake at the same time).
Nothing will replace time, patience and understanding of the horses needs.
Endorphins4U2 perhaps this is a new discovery for you and you thought you would enlighten the world, cuddos to you for that, but perhaps a lot more research and veterinary consultation would clarify the actual process that is taking place. It may also be of interest to know that the horse can and does become "immune" to the endorphine release and you can then end up with a very "hyper" horse with no natural system to calm itself.I have seen 2 horses that have reacted this way and they ended as quivvering messes with constantly hightened senses and the only humane solution was to euthanise them.
To any one even contemplating testing this procedure please talk to your vet before hand and do as much research as possible.

I am sorry but I seem to fail to understand the point here!

G'day mate,

I will start with,

horse can and does become "immune" to the endorphine release,

So marathon runners don't get the "Runner High" after a few marathons ?

Next,

This works on
severly agitated horses better than anything because the adrenelin and Endorphins are very very close to the same thing..they both mask the sense of pain, I was actually thinking about calling this the "Adrenelin Tap"

Next, If this is nothing new, why is kept in the closet like a CIA secret ? What? There needs to be more research you said ? WELL if this can't be proven right, how can you prove me WRONG ?

I have ask the worlds leading authorities on Endorphins and not one of them would commit to an answer, so maybe you better get in contact with them becuase you must know more than the worlds best ?

If I was in rescue and a horse had seriously injured it's front leg and had to wait hours for help, I would use the "Tap" to lie it down to stop the other leg from fatigue because it would be holding 75% of the horses body weight on that one leg, for hours ? poor horse..

Next , the horses most people are looking after are well past the learning stage, they are already programed that way, you can only work around it if you don't have the time to spend all day with one horse to try and break a habit..

next , you saw two endorphin addicted horses ? I see them everyday, they are called WINDSUCKERS !!

Last, I think your staff have already tried it !!

Cheers bud..

PS: The research is comming ! why hold information back if it could save someone from injury ??
