Exclamation How do i make my light sorrels coat darker and richer with color?

Hey everyone i have 6 year old sorrel that i plan on showing this season.. yes, im excited, but the thing is that I want to make him stand out completely ,but his color is so dull at this point and Ive heard people talk about certain shampoos that make ur horse darker and such and if any of u people have any information or products that u think i should try please help!!!!!!!!! Also if possible, and if those products worked for ur guys's horses then maybe u can send in a pic of before and after results. This would really help!!!!

Thanks,
Chelsea Richards

I don't know if it will make them darker, but I do know that 'Mane and Tail' will make them shinyer! You Barrel race, I take it, do you do any other rodeo sports?

When I use cowboy magic on Cheif's mane.. he get this broad color that makes him look awesome. I never tried using it all over the body because its a squeeze tube.. I guess you can use showsheen. Cowboy magic does work on the body but its a REALLY slow process getting it on.

You can use shampoos that are made for red heads. I like the Kiwi brand. DOnt use it all the time though. Only when needed. Its not a dye. RInse it well after washing.

Keep the horse out of the sun in the summertime.

It's coat will be darker.

The product SHAPLEY'S has a line of shampoos that enhance the colour of your horse's coat. They have shampoos for a range of colours, from palomino to blacks. You could also try adding molasses to your horse's feed to darken him. I've only done this on a palmomino, and her coat went from a very light tan to a deep golden true to tone palomino colour.

Coat health comes from the inside out. Make sure he has a balanced diet with all the minerals/vitamins he needs. Plenty of elbow grease and currying will also help bring out natural oils. Good luck, and hint: a little show sheen never hurt anyone either

I was never all that fond of a sorrel colored horse. Then, I ended up with a sorrel colt last year. When I first got him at 4 months his coat was okay, but nothing great. Now he is gorgous!!! (and I'm not just biast) and it's all because of flax seed! What an amazing little seed it is! It took a good few months for it to really take effect, but I'm telling ya he's a beauty now. His coat is so smooth and soft and shiney and has this beautiful dark luster to it. Its amazing! He just glows!

Good nutrition is the best way to improve your horses coat, and flax seed is definatly part of a healthy diet!

Good nutrition will make the coat shine. Flax seed is good because of the Omega fatty acids, you can even buy complete feeds with flaxseed in them

Rio Vista has a shampoo called HiBlackBurgendy that I use on my bay mare. I think they have one for chestnuts, if they do, try it. It is a really nice brand and works well.
