How do I find out about my thoroughbred (Australia)?

Hi All,

I want to find out more about my 11yr old Bay Gelding, but don't know how to read the brands. On one shoulder he has 5 over 9, and on the other he has a J with an S like top to it.

Hope someone can help!

Regards
Melissa

send me a clear pic of the brands on both nearside and offside shoulders (if there are brands on the offside shoulder). If there aren't brands on the offside shoulder that means that the horse is from Queensland as Queensland TB's are the only ones that are just branded on the one shoulder (I own a QLD TB )

I can try and look the horse up for you on the Australian Throughbred Stud Book website (I am a paid member) and will let you know if I find anything - Records are incomplete prior to 2003 for brands but I've been pretty lucky with most of my searches.

That's the brand for Yarraman Park Stud. I know it well. Since he was born prior to 2003, you will need to contact them and ask for the name of the 5th horse born on the stud in 1999.

Hope this helps!

Yes it is the correct stud. I found him. Here is his pedigree

I found the brand and got a heap of horses but not him. I selected all studs listed that had progeny for those brands and searched through the individual stud horses and hit paydirt with the identification certificates
