Do horses get poisen ivy/oak?

I was just wondering if horses got any of the poisens in the woods? After my new ponies rider-less gallop through the woods, I'm a bit worried about him. I obviously checked him over and he has no wounds, but how long would it take for a rash to appear? He had front boots on, should I wash them?

Horses love to eat it and I have yet to see a reaction from a horse (I know several that do), but I imagine some rare cases horses can have a reaction. Its usually the handler that gets it from bits/halters

Wow! Okay. I'm sure he didn't stop to eat it... he made it back to the barn in about five minutes. But I'll clean my tack. Thanks

I knew a horse and they had to keep his legs qrapped after they realized he passed it on to the farrier. I'm not sure if the horse actually had a real reaction, it might have just carried the posion ivy.

They can carry the oils from it on their hair but even though I have several lush patches of it in a wooded field I've never heard of a horse getting it.

Hubby, who gets the stuff just from looking at it , has gotten it from grooming one of ours who'd obviously been grazing the grass around the poison ivy. I found this funny since I'm not allergic to it.
