I feel you!!
We're not exactly in the best position with money either, I'm not getting many shifts at my regular job, so I'm not exactly pulling it in either! And my parents aren't supportive of my riding at all!! They love my horse, and love watching me ride, but as soon as I mention "compete" our household goes right off!!
I've spoken to a friend about selling my horse, there's really no point wasting him in the paddock!! He does have the potential to be a good little eventer or show jumper, but I just can't give him that!
I hope everything works out for you!!
Good luck!

Wow, I wasn't expecting so many replies I didn't even think anyone would read my rant.

I guess a lot of people go through this. I love how supporting HGS is and how you can talk about anything .

If you still feel that you need to do something there is the lease or partial lease option. Even if you just lease your horse to someone for the show season that would help with the costs. Just make sure you have a well thought out contract.

I understand how you feel. I had to give up riding. It started off we could afford it just fine. Then money got tight but my mom made extra sure I had money to ride but that left it were other family members got short changed. So I talked to the barn I rode at and started working there to pay off my lessons.

Then we moved and we can't afford it. I can't get a job either. My family was still going to try to pay for it but I have told them not to.

A lot of my horsey friends look down on me for giving them up but its not forever. Plus I really couldn't choose horses over my families well being.
