DL-Shed some light?? Dressage Level

I'm looking into entering another dressage show(schooling, will be doing Intro and jumping)...

But one of the later shows in their series has Training Level Prix Caprilli. What level is this compared to the other levels? And what types of movements are in the tests?

I don't think I've ever heard of this level...

I'm not DL, but I can shed some light for you

A prix caprilli test includes 2 jumps, which are usually no higher than 2 foot. If it specifies that its a 'training level' prix caprilli, then the movements are similar to that of training level.

Eg, it would go something like, A enter working trot, X halt salute, C track left, E circle left 20mtrs, after A turn down the 3 quarter line and over the jump, then medium walk at C, HXF change rein in free walk on a long rein, before F med walk, F trot between A and K working canter right leg, canter 20mtre circle at E, trot at H, turn down the 3 quarter line after C and go over jump etc.

So same as a simple training test but with a few little jumps.

They aren't used in official comps (at least not in oz) but mainly at PC and fun training day or small unofficial comps.

we had something like that here. It was called a trail dressage test. There was a small jump, trot poles, a gate and you had to get something from a mail box... It was fun.

The Prix Caprilli is an actual test that can be found on the USDF website - show organizers will have to purchase copies of the test from USDF for the show, so you can be sure they will follow the rules.

It really is very simple and a lot of fun. It compares to Training Level Test 1 or 2 in terms of difficulty and the jumps really are tiny.

Dressage Trail is a fun class that shows offer to showcase the versatility of your horse, but it is an informal class created by the group running the event and there is no "official" test involved.

I have a quick question for this and excuse me if its dumb.

Would you use a dressage or close contact saddle for this test. If I used my dressage saddle I would BARELY be able to help my horse out at the jump at all. It really sucks me deep into the seat...

Thanks

That's a good point - I'm not sure I could be a very effective rider (ie. get off my poor horse's back!) in a dressage saddle. Maybe that's why you don't see these classes very often?
