Distance and Angle from ankle to hoof

Ok my freind is still looking for a kids horse to be shown in 4h and be trail ridden. They will just do showmanship and easy gated equitation. They have a few horses in mind but one is awesome and is in their price range. But (dont want t osound dumb i only know western stock horses) does it matter how long te distance the hoof is from the ankle??? Because this horse has a lot of distnace bet. thme and it is very slanted while most hoses i have seen are more just straight down. I cant explain it very welll. Does anyone knoe what i mean and is this bad??

Thanks
David

Yes, you are saying the horse has long, sloping pasterns. That's ok, as long as the hoof angle matches the pastern angle. It's not exactly desirable, but it isn't a major 'flaw', if you want to call it that.

For what they want, it will pass. They don't judge the exact conformation in those classes.

Look at the shoulder angle. A steep shoulder angle will cause for a rough, not nice ride. A long, sloping shoulder will give a smoother ride and a longer stride!

Depending on the breed of the horse, the pastern length will vary. TB's have LONG pasterns, QH's shorter (comparing eachother)
