Difference between brown & bay?
Look in the AQHA color guide. It talks about brown so I think its a real color for those of you who think its not. One time I had this person say "OMG.. I hate when people say they are brown, NOT even a real color". And I just sit & roll my eyes.
. But now I have an explanations AND proof. HEHE!

Bay is a redder color with dark mane and tail and legs.
Brown is - brown. Very little to no red in it.
In the USA, the terminology tends to be confused. There are a lot of brown horses that get called bay, if their legs or mane or tail are a little darker Technically, if it's a brown color, it's not a bay, regardless if the points are a little darker. Americans tend to call a lot of horses bay, that are actually brown.

Yep. Plus bays has dark points, browns have light.

Actually the 'brown' looks very similar to what a lot of people consider a dark bay. It's a dark brown to black horse with some lighter points
