| Senior Member+ | did your heart ever just "go out to" a certain horse?
Was there ever a certain horse that, for some reason or another, stole your heart and almost made you want to cry? My friends have this mare at their barn. She is completely blind; not sure why, she was like that when they got her awhile ago. She is actually a very beautiful horse conformation wise; registered QH, with this awesome cinamonny chestnut color (hence her name, Cinammon, lol.) When I first started helping out over there, making the rounds to all the stalls watering and haying, she would get really agitated and skittish when I opened her stall door. Usually she would turn her back to me until I put the haybale in. She was particularly loath to let you put your hand near her nose; then again, most blind horses I have encountered are/were like that to begin with, justifiably. But I just started petting her and talking quietly to her while her water barrel was filling, and now she is not fearful of me at all. Within a few months, it is like she is a different horse around me! She'll stand quietly in her stall when I fill her water, and even tolerate me petting her face, as long as I announce my presence and don't just assume she knows I am there. I just feel this sympathy for her, for some reason. She is bred right now, and about to foal anyday now. She just seems so uncomfortable whether she's turned out or in her boxstall. Call me a bleeding heart, but I just wish I could take her home and wave a magic wand so she could see again.

awwww! bless! yes, there was one mare,a 5 y/o german warmblood at the local sanctuary, and she was involved in a dr.ugs raid, but imnot going to say how- because its really sick! The gelding died because of the packaging exploding into his bloodstream!!! I just looked at her and thought, OMG!!! how could anybody do anything like that to a horse! (luckily the raiders were caught and sent to jail for a really long time!)

I know that she was not bred last year. They did breed her to their reg'd QH stud, who's a really good horse all around. I am going to have to ask my friend how this mare became blind to begin with. It almost looks like it had to be some sort of injury; her eyes do not look "normal" but are pretty frightening actually, like they're not set in right. It could be a case of former-owner abuse, or maybe even old age (not sure how old she is, but she really does not look like an old mare physically.)

Aww thats so cute..sounds like she really loes you. I've had many horses touch my heart and that i've loved so deeply. But most o you know who won my heart over and who my heart went out too. His name was Sebastian, i will never love a horse like i loved him. We had so many great times and memories. I will still love that horse with all of my heart till the day i die.

The sire of my Arabian mare steals my heart (and my breath) everytime I see him. The lady does nothing with him (except breed him), but he is the most beautiful black Arabian I have ever seen. I want to buy him and clean him up and show him, but she has refused my offers (even though she stated that she wished to sell him). He is 19 now, but is still drop dead gorgeous.
