| Senior Member | Did I do this right? A couple days ago Poco overreached and got her self pretty good. She scraped off the skin and hair there. I rinsed it off in cold water then applied some corona to it. Today I went there, a nice scab and everything, no limping of any kind. But there was a bruise. I decided to use some epsome salts. Put her foot in it and everything. And she promptly knocked over the bucket in less than 2 minutes. Go figure. My fault I went to go get something and she tried to follow. Well there was still some left so I put a gauze pad in and let it soak then used some medical tape and taped the gauze pad on it and kept it there for about 20-25 minutes. Did I do it right? I didnt have any more epsome salts because I only had enough for a single soak. She never over reaches either so that was a little shocker.

| Senior Member+ | Hey girl! If it were me I wouldn't use Epsoms salt soaks on open skin wounds. Epsoms salt is good for drawing and soak the hoof but kind of caustic for open skin wounds on skin. If it were me and your trying to help with soreness from the brusing I would just hydro therapy it for 20 min. 2x a day and you can use corona to surface wounds that aren't deep to help with scaring and hair growth but if it's deep and meaty I would use triple antibotic ointment first until it's scabbing then go to corona. I would also use a good bell boot to protect it. Hope that helps! Your doing good! |
