If you have a horse with a big, or rather long head, besure they have the extra long attatchment for the power float. Thomas' former vet service only had the short one and missed all the hooks way at the back.

My theory for sedation is = if it keeps the dentist, vet, farrier safe, along with you and the horse...do it. It doesn't have any harmful effects unless your horse has medical issues, that contraindicate sedation. I would rather know everyone is safe than getting hurt. As for powertools...hmm...I have never known anyone to use them on my horse. But I also get her teeth done every 6 months so they dont get to that point (unless the extraction of the wolfe teeth)

someone argued against power tools here about six months ago. You might want to search on equine dentist and see if it shows up. I remember a lot were against anything other than manual tools. I need to do it again too. With barn fee, it will probably run me about $300 as well.

I always opt for sedation. My vet doesn't like power tools because he feels that he can get a better feel for things with his hands. I have had horses done without sedation, and I won't do it again. It's just so much easier on every one involved to have them sedated.

IMO it is the handler that makes the tools .. that being said I don't think any hand tool could have done the one older horse we took over first with Sassy his Canines were actually touching the ROOF of his mouth !!! when we took him home they were "close" to a normal length and he ate better then he had in six months

I have an appointment for Dandy to get his teeth done May 28th. I am using an equine dentist that was recommended to me. My cousin had him out for her horses. My horse will be sedated.
