mmmmmmm yummy. *licks melted chocolate off my finger*

I accidentally found a new spooky item.

I had a couple of plastic garbage cans with wheels in the barn that I wanted by the house. When I moved them I forgot that we let the boys out into the back yard that I had to cross with the garbage cans so when I came around the corner they both jumped but stood their ground. By the time I made it to the house both had gone back to eating. Goofy horses but I'm glad they did so well.

We also have a metal garbage can that we use near them to throw things in when it's empty. It makes a great spook noise.

Yeah, my horse doesnt like things above her head or flying on either side of her, so we always ride over to garbages at shows to and i sit on her and throw things in the trash, she wouldnt do it at first but now she stands perfectly.

And i take barrels and have the horses stand while i role them around and roll/push them underneath their bellies, etc.

And when i ride around, if im next to any type of wall i bang on it while i ride by, or kick it with my feet. And when i ride by the barrels in the arena i kick them and knock them over, and play around with the horses, asking them to kick the barrels around.

And another thing, me and my friend have played football, tag, and some other games on our horses. For any kind of game where you would be tossing a ball back and forth, definatley get the horse used to it on the ground first as it can be EXTREMELY scary when your running around trying to catch it lol.

Great ideas. I'll have to dig the soccer ball out from storage and start that one myself.

At least someone appreciates my creativity LOL

I think we are taking over the thread O.o
  • And of course, i couldnt post again without more of the things i've done:
  • We tied plastic bags to the horses saddle while lunging (after the horse accepts the bag being rubbed on them of course)
  • Put keys on a string and jangled them while w/t/l around
  • Taking pictures from the horses back (this may sound like its not that big of a deal, but some horses think that when they see "the bright light" that they are dying lol)
  • Having a cell phone in the saddle with you, turned up loud (only if you have had it ringing on the ground before) so if you randomly get texted or called it makes a ton of noise
  • If possible, ride by a building while a door is slammed shut (LOL not cool when you didnt think of it and a door shuts, horsey freak out!!)
Beware, the next time i post, i may remember yet another de-spooking tactic

I do those too lol

I hadn't thought about the cell phone but it's a good idea since the cell phone would be going with me on trail rides. TY

Haha ok well, i went with Myhorseannie today to see her horses, and i found yet another despooking idea...

There happens to be a viciously hungry, orange triangular animal (some of us may recognize this as a cone) that tries to nip at the horses legs.

Usually horses dont even care about cones until you pick them up and walk up the them lol

to show them it is alright i rub it on them, then i put it on the saddle horn and lead 'em around with it till they dont care anymore.

We had a horse we were despooking and he was going to be used on a ranch. Well, he did fine with ropes on him and lunging. So what we did is we took bailing twine from off the hay bales and we tied them EVERYWHERE on the saddle. He looked like a cheep version of those arab costumes haha. We lunged him and the first time he bucked a few times but surprisingly he did fine.
