Dangerous? Abuse? Or maybe just outside your experience?

Look at the following pictures:

All the horses above are tied with their reins. All are working cow horses on a ranch. This is a common sight on working ranches throughout the US. All are our horses. Guess how many have broken their reins or hurt their mouths tied this way? NONE! Guess how many years experience we have handling horses this way? From MY Grandparents and Hubbys Grandparents on down to our kids. GENERATIONS!

Do our horses spook sometimes? Yes they do, but they spook only as far as they know their tie allows them to go. They are Ranch Horses because of their leavelheadedness (LOL, long word) and because of their training. Becasue of both of these things, they can be tied with their reins and it does not cause any problems. We also tie off to the rope when we have to doctor a calf out in the middle of a couple of hundred acres and the horse will not go anywhere even though they are not "correctly tied up according to conventional modern wisdom".

So, dangerous? NOPE, not one bit.

Next two pictures. Does this look mean and abusive?

Just from the pictures, without you asking any questions about what was going on and why, sure, it can look very mean. But, take a moment and ask why and you might learn something before jumping on a self-righteous rant.

So, just because it is beyond what you "think you know", you might want to take a moment and ask "why" and "how". It could end up with a person learning something new.

You are trying to make him keep walking, the cart isn't really moving, the horse is pulling back... I have no clue! You are trying to crack his back? New form of equine yoga...

The single horse is teaching the two other horses how to WHOA. They obviously aren't listening.....

Apparently.......he got what he want.

Now, he wants them to back up? Man, can't get through to those two. They just aren't listening are they?????
