What are you doing you ask?... Well you are taking a chance at breaking your horses neck or leg. Have I worked on a ranch with ranch horses? Yes I am speaking from experience. There are ways to teach your horse to lead / give to pressure that are safer for the horse. This can work, has for years, but I would rather use a method that minimizes the risk for the horse.

Tying a horse with reins- no problem, if the horse gives to pressure.

Shoot, the search is dissabled and I can't find the thread right now. You're going to have to wait a bit longer.

Since we got to wait....I'll throw something in on the rein issue

I tie mine to the kids.

Though, that might be more dangerous than a pole....kids bite and kick...

And why someone should ask more in depth, instead of going just off the picture.

There is more to it than what you think.

Your experience may not have included this horse's experiences. And you do not know what had and had not been tried.

One of the points she is getting at, is to TALK before making judgement.

I guess I am the oddball because I don't tie my horse up at all unless I have my other horse out and have two to worry about. I just drape her reins around her neck if I only need a quick potty break. She will just eat. I don't really need to tie her up to tack her up either I just do when my kids are watching so they learn proper ways. That is a benefit of having a horse that I know well and can trust.

Are you teaching a stubborn horse to lead, give to pressure, etc? We would break our sheep to lead if they were particularly stubborn by tieing them to the back of the 3 wheeler and a girl at the barn taught her stubborn calf to lead by tieing to the hitch on the truck and driving slowly around the pasture. It worked!

Its hard to discuss without information!!!! we cant tell anything positive from this picture! I feel it is aimed at provocing a reaction to be mocked later! thats only my opinion mind you
