JG , I know you weren't being rude, but you are speaking without knowledge And that wasn't rude either.

How many real ranch horses have you been around? How much experience on working ranches do you have? This VERY MUCH goes to understanding the point I am making.

Ground tying is considered a very safe alternative for tying up a horse with even a halter. But, if horses will be horses and still spook and run away, what happens when they step on the loose rein hanging down? If horses will be horses and still spook, what happens when they hit the end of their halter lead they are tied with and it slams them to the ground or digs into their flesh or snaps and they flip over backward and break their neck? The common thread to all this is TRAINING! If a horse is trained in full, they also are trained in their response to things that would spook them. They understand that they have only so much room to move when tied and do not exceed that room. They learn to "spook in place" rather than a full spook. Thus, when horses are horses, they act out in a trained response, which is to spook only as far as they can before the slightest pressure comes into play, and that is the instant they feel the "tug" on the rein. Tug means STOP. They stop and nothing is hurt, broken or damaged.

Like I said a complely common ranch practice that is safe. Have you ever watched a remuda being roped in a one strand rope corrall. That would really open your eyes.
