The thread I believe is titled "Dangerous? Abuse? Or maybe just outside your experience?".

I believe in your case, it is simply outside your experience....outside and way beyond your experiences.

Now, if you don't mind, I'm gonna go tie MYSELF behind a wagon.
I am all for opinions and I am very opened to them, and if proven wrong then I will be more than happy to admite it but to me this is not the best way to go about the situation. Is it outside my experience in the sense that I have never dealt with it?? Yes. Is it outside my experience in the sense that I don't know whta I'm talking about? No, I do have experience with horses, etc so I do know what I'm saying.

Not the experience DB or HHF has.
And if you haven't dealt with it...you don't REALLY know what you are talking about.

Yes, I do because I do have experience! In this certain case, not much but I do have experience so therefore I can voice my opinion correctly.

yea well my cousin lead my horse one time...and she pet her and sat on her back while we walked around.
I'd say she has some horse experience...why don't we go ask HER opinion on the whole thing.

I'm saying I'm not some newby to all this. I've been at it for awhile, leading isn't exactly the experience I'm talking about...

Experience where you actualy know something, more than one days worth. You are taking my words and pushing them to the extreme!

This is the cousin I'm talking about.
Now is she qualified to give her opinion?
Well...not that she's ever dealt with a horse that pulled back and wouldn't walk off with you but that doesn't really matter.

This was a very good post.

How many got the point of it..

eh, I'm thinking roughly a hand full.

No fault of your own though. I liked the idea. I believe one of the larger henderances with people and their beliefs on training is the fact that people do not realize how easily and quickly a horse can and will go to a kill buyer. I do realize that in all odds, you probably saved this horses life. A few ounces of pain were suffered but a life was saved.

Worth it in my eyes.

Those things mentioned above are not fashion accessories though they are seen as such by many.

They are meant to be used. People who are afraid to smack their horse properly if it is required are the ones that train horses to ignore them.

Horses and riders I train are good. Why, because if they need to carry the whip, they will use it properly or not carry it. The horse gets asked once, if not done, they feel a gentle reminder with the whip. If they still do not respond, they get a good feel. Probably stings for a second. All the better. Not very often that we need to resort to that method more than once.

The horse learns same as a child does. Asking is being nice, refusal to comply has consequences.

Do we flog a horse. No.

Can I train horses and riders. I think so. Either that or the judges that keep giving high placings to our horses and the kids I teach are all wrong.

You know, the people making the most noise about cruel treatment will probably laugh at themselves in years to come when they have gained experience in the horseworld, either that or remain at their current level of knowledge for ever because of their inability to look with open eyes and question both themselves and others.
