Sweet colt though! Along with that, I did a great deal of work with my horse Ollie when I started taking lessons on him 4 years ago before I bought him, he was pretty much green. Raced, sat in a pasture with no handling of any kind for 2 years, came to the barn and sat around for a good deal of time then I started on him.
So you have only worked with 2 horses? I just want to be sure that I read this right... before commenting further.

I do believe that doublebarr WAS the very experienced trainer in this case. I would be very anxious to hear how YOU would've fixed this horse. Sent her on to someone else? Someone like doublebarr?? What would've happened to your colt had he caused trouble, an entire YEAR of trouble actually, for the trainer you sent him to?

I'm not putting you down for sending the horse elsewhere as that's what I have done with a mare I have now. Some things we are not able to handle on our own but I feel doublebarr is very competent and had there been a different, "more humane" way to fix it she would've done something different.

I never said she wasn't expierenced, just simply that other ways and approaches should of been taken IMO. I cannot say I would work with him because I have never met the horse so that is nearly impossible. The colt I worked with was not sent away either, if that's what you were speaking of. He is still at the barn doing nothing and I feel horrible everytime I see him. I give him a treat here and there and walk by to pet him, etc but that is all.

She DID take other ways and approaches, she tried for a YEAR.

Oh so problem horses shouldn't be fixed and should just stand around doing nothing the rest of their lives?? I see.
Doublebarr did an entire years worth of "different approaches" before resorting to this.

how many times must I, or anyone else, say that?

So why did you give up on him if you have all this great training knowledge that is just waiting to be explored? Why did you quit and just leave the horse at the barn doing nothing?

I know that I understand that, and I commend her for not giving up and giving the horse a good home. However, having a horse pull against a wagon that is moving is something I would not do. There are other ways that maybe she did not try...

Meet Anna.

Anna did not want to tie.

So she sat and did this for a few hours. Eventually gave up, stepped forward, and was much happier. Never pulled back again.

Is this cruel? Letting her sit there for a few hours? I don't think so. She learned her lesson.
