Dandruff, what to use to help?

Uggh! My boy Chase has aweful dandruff in his mane! Not only is there white powdery flakey gunk, but his crest and mane feel really oily and grimey.

I have only had him two days and I honestly think he has never been bathed! I am not yet comfortable bathing him until I work with him more, but once I do bathe, what is a good product for removing and helping with the dandruff and oily feel?

use listerine on it! scrub it in really good and let it sit a few minutes and rinse. keep this up a few days and it'll eliminate it.

Listerine mouthwash?! I never would have thought of that in a million years! What is in it that helps with dandruff?

I had a horse in the winter that would rub his tail and the hair would disappear. So what we were told was to mix about a table spoon of keri lotion in a 8 oz hairspray bottle that we had left over and fill the rest of it with water and squirt that on his tail. if the skin isn't oily then this might work but for the person with oily main a disinfectant soap should work just fine.

Listerine helps with a lot of skin conditions, if you look at OLD listerine bottles it does have info about treating dandruff.

But if you think you horse has never been bathed, then a couple normal baths might just take care of it.

Yep, I was thinking the same thing. Just use reg shampoo and scrub in good and rinse thoroughly, then conditioner. Amiga's was like that when I first got her too. She had also had 2 treatments with tick dip because she was INFESTED! It made her mane and midline just GROSS!! After a couple of baths she is gorgeous and no flakes

I was thinking of posting something similar to this because I noticed my friend's horse, that I normally ride, has dandruff. Listerine, eh? How much of it should be used?

I would also figure a few good scrubbing baths should do the trick, but if anything else helps, why not try it? Does it work on humans too? Lol I dont have dandruff but I was just curious if it works on humans too.
