Dosing is easy - same conversion as the paste. 2.3mL/100lb if you're doing a regular dose, or 4.6mL/100lb for the "power pack".

I get 5 125mL bottles and split (not quite evenly) a bottle between the 2 horses once a day for 5 days. Rio gets 65mL/day, Catnip 60. That's a little on the heavy side, but only by a few mL.

They eat it right up in their food It IS too runny to syringe in. Tried that the first day. It does coat the stall wall nicely though

Yep, I would have never known if it hadn't been for another board! The key is making sure it's a 10% fenbendazole solution if you're going to use that dosing.

No I never worm for Tape Worms I've talked to all 3 of the vets I use here and all said with my setup it would be pointless to do so. All said if any of my horses had tape worms they'd be shocked.

What about your 'setup' makes it pointless to deworm for tapes?

http://equimax.horse.com/map.asp

As you can see, you live in the area of the US most prone to tapeworm infection. (The 95.8% refers to the percentage of horses in the study that had a tapeworm infection. That is extremely high.)

I just scanned this article, but it appears to be pretty trustworthy. Might be a good read.

You would wait 4 weeks after your last daily dewormer dose if you are looking to minimize egg shedding in feces and just deworming "regularly". However, with the situation your horses are in you don't likely need to deworm as often and so should have fecal egg counts performed every 3-4 months and just deworm as necessary based upon your fecal results. This is now recommended over just following an "every 6-8 week rotational deworming" program due to the development of resistance of the parasites to the drugs that are available and the realization that we need to limit our drug use to only when necessary so that we don't end up with totally ineffective drugs before we have something new to use to fight parasites.

I've never had any reason to think tapes are a problem for me. No indication my horses are affected by them at all. I'm also a big beleiver in not putting any more drugs into animalos then what I feel is actually needed horses or other wise.

I would imagine this means that your horses are on drylots and not grazing.

Tapeworms have little to do with management and lots to do with the environment. Oribatid mites contain the tapeworm larva, and those mites (of which about 14 of the 7000 species are carriers) like to live in anything that is not too arid. That leaves most of the US. They live in the soil. They live on blades of grass.

Tapeworm infestations can go years and years undetected, until a horse develops an impaction colic from them.

Your environment is perfect for a tapeworm infestation.

of course, it could be that your horses have a natural immunity to them.

What is it about your setup though that makes your vets nearly positive that your horses are tapeworm free?
