Daily Grooming Regimen

What's your daily grooming regimen? I'm especially interested in those who show...how long do you spend grooming every day?

With my new show prospect, I'm grooming him twice a day. Each session, I blow out the dust with the blower attachment on my vaccuum, then vaccuum for 15min with various attachments. Then I curry 10 min, brush 10min, then wipe with a soft rag for 5min.

So basically 40min a session, total 1hr 20min a day.

It takes me 30 to 60 minutes start to finish
long hard curry
briskly remove losened dirt with hard dandy brush
brisk strokes with dense medium brush to remove fine dust
long strokes with soft long hair brush
smooth coat down with super soft goat hair brush
gently curry with ultra soft curry comb all over face
brush off loosened dirt with goat hair brush
clean eyes and nostrils with specific rag for face
pick out feet
hand pick mane and tail for shavings
flyspray (during the summer)

For me while I was showing we would just do a basic 10 min groom everyday.
Curry
medium brush
soft brush
hooves
mane and tail

Then for a couple nights before we would go crazy with the bath and everything to go along with it.

I'm not showing much at the moment but my routine hasn't changed from when I did show a lot. Generally I spend about 15 minutes before getting him out, it used to be a lot longer but I've been using a fly sheet and that is really helping cut down on green spots
So my routine is:
curry and/or slick'n'easy block
stiff brush
green spot remover + towel
soft brush
pick out hooves
fly spray
soft brush again to make sure fly spray is all over
brush/finger comb mane and tail.

Then after working him (or whatever we did that day), I either repeat the above routine or hose him off. About once a week he gets a full on soap bath, which generally takes 30 minutes. I also do a show clip whenever he looks shabby which is about every 2 weeks.

So basically I spend about 30 minutes groom on an average day.

For an every day groom I:

-curry
-hard bristlye brush
-medium long bristle brush
-medium-soft dandy brush
-goat hair dandy brush
-pick feet
-spray hooves with water (summer)
-check for bots (summer)
-fly spray (summer)
-coat conditioner (non-freezing weather)

But in winter it is very different. Because everything freezes

I try to get as much ice out of their hooves as I can. Sometimes I have to try to use some hot water and even then it is just horrible. I just remove any mud and or snow from the horses where the saddle and cinch will be and that's it I'm careful not to strip the oils or freeze myself at the same time. I also only ride at a walk or jog during winter

Nothing
I pick her hooves.
I might wipe her off if I'm putting a rug on, or if she's got junk in her tail then I might unpick it.
Unless I'm riding, then her saddle area gets a going over and any other muck while I've got the brush.

Hmm.. I give a quick once-over the saddle area (sometimes with a brush, sometimes with my hand) and pick out her hooves. Does that make me a bad mama? LOL, this is the horse who refuses to get a speck of dirt on her, though.

Here she is before I groom.. Sometimes she's cleaner.

I show jumpers (so not too flashly like more western stuff). But I don't do anything HAHA
I curry quick and brush the dust off, pick the feet, then ride. Then hose them off when I'm done. Sometimes I'll put my homemade conditioner in their mane and tail and comb it out..

For shows, they just get a bath and trimmed up. Nothing special haha But I think their good diet helps cuz they're all shiny all the time.

I'll give them a thorough brush before I ride, if I have the time. Otherwise, just brush to get the worst of the dirt off, and make sure saddle area is clean. A few days before shows they will get a bath to get rid of the worst of the dirt, then tail and legs usually get washed again the day before (or the morning of if I don't have an early start) to make sure they are sparkling. (Oh the joys of greys )

I don't like to brush really thoroughly each and every day, as mine live outside so need the oil for protection. Every now and then, when I'm not riding, I will go out and give them each a good brush. At the moment, they are looking like ferals as they haven't had a bath in ages, have been naked much of the time, and are shedding their winter woolies.

Having said that, I just pulled T out of the paddock the other day, gave him a quick brush, and hopped on:

Having a good diet, I've found, is the best way to get that lovely shiny coat.

My brushing includes
picking out hooves
getting caked on mud out with dandy brush
body brush whole body
brush mane and tail out every now and then
apply hoof conditioner a few times a week after working them when in a dry spell
