| Senior Member+ | I'm really worried, today we figured Charlie might have cushings disease. I don't really have a clue what it is except the basics like the symptoms but what exactly is it??? He has a thick curly coat that he sweats alot in and he is prone to getting laminitas in the summer. It's really sad, i don't know whether he'll die so please help me, what is it, what can i do, will he get better.

Oh gees that's a shame. I know it's a pituitary gland malfunction, but am not clear on what to do about it. Def talk to your vet ASAP for confirmation and game plan. Best wishes!

| Senior Member | Allright, first. Is your horse older than 18 becuase that is when you should have him or her tested for it. I believe it requires a blood test and my vet said something like you do something in the morning and then again in the afternoon to get the reading but I'm not sure what. I was gona have Isabella tested but my vet said to wait till she's like 18. So anyway, we have a pony that has the diesase and he can't loose his winter coat. I would contact your vet and ask directly what you should be looking for and what should be done. Good luck! _Katy

Yea definatly have the vet run the test, i dont mean to scare you but without being put on meds asap it could get really bad, i had a little poa pony that we rescued from her miserable life, brought her back to health then to find out she had cushings, got real bad real quick, since she was always shaggy we didnt catch it in time and she ended up going blind and got a brain tumour (i still dont know if it was related to that or not) and we had to humanely euth. her. |

| Senior Member+ | He belongs to the riding school so i can't do a thing about it excpet suggest to them. I know they know an enourmous amount about horses and they would kow what to do but i'm afriad they are not taking this seriously. He is my all time fave and i'd hate anything to happen to him. I'm going up later today so i'm going to have a word with Sarah if she's there if not one of the others and ask what they are going to do aobut it. Thanks for all you help
