Its looks like she is standing in her stirrups. Her bum is almost over the pommel..

So her standing is affecting her ankle..

haha Farmeress you're really draggin this one out!

My last guess is shes standing in her stirrups and affecting her ankle cause her stirrups are too long..

Long stirrups are part of it...now...following the stirrup idea...look for the main cause/detail of issue....and no guessing....really study for detail

She has no support with her lower leg. She didnt keep her calf on to stop her leg from swinging back..
Without the calf on she cant obtain support and without support you cant allow your ankle to move the way its supposed to (absorb impact and allow you to go into two point properly)

No guess here but I could be wrong (would you believe its happened once or twice before?? lol)

Looking great for only your 2nd jumping lesson!

Put up those sturrips 2 or 3 holes. And try to remember little jump = little bend = little release. You look like you could be jumping something 4' with that big bend and release!

Over these types of fences don't worry so much about bending and releasing over the fences let the horse come to you and you'll have a more correct natural bend and release.

Very cute horse!

I'm thinking it's because she's gripping with her knee. She isn't using her hip and calf to support herself so her hip and ankle are affected. I'd recommend a lot of riding without stirrups to help a bit.

While every poster here is correct...including DJ with the suggestion of a raised stirrup length...nothing will change until.....

She re-adjust the position of her foot in the stirrup.....it is in the home position.

Head on shots mean one really needs to pay attention to the smallest detail....the photo below shows the bottom line issue of the problems we see.

Even if the stirrup leather was shorten....and the foot was left in the home position....we would still see lift in the heel as the calf contracts incorrectly as there would be too much weight on the toes.

We see in this photo...the perfect shot....stirrup home on foot...toes pointed down while the heel is up and the calf is too contracted to wrap around the barrel of the horse.

Here...the heel lift from the ankle has rotated the entire leg off the horse...including the knee....and in some...she rotates the ankle bone in while tensing the toe digits which has the knee pinch

Raising the stirrup...re-adjusting the position of the stirrup to the ball of the foot....taking all tension/weight out of the toe and simply relaxing the ankle will drop the heel naturally as the "leg" weight drops through the hip to the heel

Hamstring stretches will also help with this issue.

And as DJ mentioned...this is very good for only a second lesson.

Thanks SOO much for all the replies. And many thanks farmeress! Everything mentioned I can see and understand, so now hopefully I'll be able to go back and work on some things to improve my skills. I'll have to see about putting another couple holes in my leathers as that was the last hole. And I'll definately work on the position of my foot in the stirrups!
