| Senior Member+ | Critique Jumping and/or Conformation!! Hey guys! I was wondering if you could do a critique on jadens jumping and/or confo. You may also critique me on the jumping. Constructive criticism is welcomed, then we can work on it and become better! thankss! sorry for the bad quality.. they were taken from videos. ![]() here are some before pics (taken maybe a couple weeks ago) ![]() ![]() ![]() Then here is a pic from today. i think she improved on her form, not so much me. Idk how/why my leg was back further than its suppose to be.. suggestions?? btw, after the jump, i lost my balenced, if that facters in at all? ![]() Then here are the confo shots, she was being soo.... well, yeah. and wouldn't stand after I set her up. but here they are, if they are too bad to critique I'll try to get some better ones tomorrow. She looked a lil downhill to me, I think its because she was on a hill, b/c she looked good in one of these pics. ![]() ![]()

I think you need a ground pole in front of your jump. She's snapping her knees up in the last picture. The second picture is a little scarey - catching a pole with the knees can really trip and flip em. Her neck is short and she needs more groceries. It looks like your saddle is rubbing her - compressing her on the back. Check its fit. She looks tucked up behind - like her pelvis is tilted. Up front her heels look too long. Your form may not be the best, but at least you're not bumping her in the mouth. I think you're getting ahead of her and that's why your leg is slipping. Sit back and drive her at the jump, rather than two-pointing to it. Your 1st picture is by far the best. BUt - I'd like to see a more closed hip and a lower hand, since your not completing a crest release correctly. check this out |

in the last photo, you losing your balance after is a simple result of your leg position :] if you can anchor your heels and use your calfs to balance, like your form suggests in the other pictures you will have a much more balanced landing also :]

Your horse is very cute. You've lost your leg in the last pic because your stirrups are way too long (do you even have stirrups in that pic?). In the precious pictures they looked much better, and so does your leg. A shorter stirrup length creates a lighter seat, which is essential for jumping. When your stirrups are too long, you have to reach for them, sending your lower leg back. Your upper body then goes forward as a result, and also in an effort to keep up with your horse and not get left behind. When stirrups are correctly adjusted, they give you a steady base from which to follow your horse over the jump. In the previous pics, you look good. In the middle pic your horse took a close spot and bumped you out of position! In all the other pics, your leg is nice, but you are anticipating and jumping ahead of your horses motion. Trot lots of small fences (sitting the trot a few steps out from the fence) to force you to stay back and wait. You are also ducking over your fences a tad in the first pic and very last pic (one from today). Open your chest, shoulders back. Remember not to collapse your upper body. Your release is nice, just remember to press your hands into your horses crest to support your upper body. In the first pic it looks like its floating above the neck. Your horse is a cute jumper, I agree with the above comments to use a rolled out ground pole. This will help your horse find her takeoff spot. It will also encourage a rounder jump, right now shes blasting over these fences pretty flat. In the last pic her knees are tighter, but shes flatter in her jump. Slow her down and get her to the base to get her to sit back on her hocks. Do some grid work to get her round and tight. Bounces work great for this. IMO, I don't think your horse needs more groceries. Shes at a good weight. All she needs is more muscling and tone. I love bays! Keep up the good work! |

I think when they say ground pole, they mean one set out like, a stride away. So, you want to keep the one where you have it, and add another one another 6-12 feet out. Not sure on the distance - it depends on your horse's stride and whether you're cantering/trotting in. | |
