critique, critique, critique...please?

here she is...I finally got pics. She's 8 years old, belgian warmblood, I would love to see her in the hunter ring, we will at least try. She had done dressage before I got her, but she just doesn't strike me as a dressage horse.
Please critique my riding as well, I know my hands are all over the place but this is our very first ride together and I was trying to figure out how much contact she liked.
I'm really too enamoured to see anything wrong with her, but my neighbor thinks she has a short neck and a big awkward head if that means she has a bigger brain then that's okay with me lol
Sorry for posting the same pics twice, but its really all i have now :-X

Unfortunately this is the best photo I have of her conformation

ooh I like her.
She is very nicely put together, I think she'll do well for you in the hunter ring.
When you're done can I have her as a broodmare please?

Nice, SUBSTANTIAL mare.

She is a lovely, big flat mover, really tracking up at the trot. Nice and round over her topline too. She moves nice and straight. Love her way of going for the hunters.

I don't see ANYTHING not to like about the way she's put together (at least from the limited photos you've posted). Her shoulder is maybe a titch more upright than ideal, but we're talking a tiny, tiny bit. She's a bit straighter in the stifle than is ideal, but not awfully straight. I wouldn't say she has a thick chunky head/neck but it's not delicate either. That being said, it suits her because she's a big bodied, full bodied mare.

Another one who could come join my herd anytime. She's REALLY nice.

You have a lot of the same naughty riding habits I do We both need to sink into our heels and not knee-pinch and let the weight get caught up there. We both need to close our fingers, sit up a bit, and let there be a bend/softeness in our elbow. Softness/give should come from the elbow-- not from loose open fingers (easier said than done for me, but it's true). Picking your hands up an inch or two and getting some bend in your elbow with a soft contact will really make the picture prettier. Your saddle might also be about 1/2 size too small in the seat for you. It's a little hard to see due to the shadow from your thigh, but it looks like it might be a hair small for you.

Great to hear! Thank you! My hands are constant issue with me, like you said, NOT EASY.
I'm really happy to hear you guys think she has a good chance in the hunters here! I really went out on a limb to get her, and she is my first horse bought sight unseen without trainer advice. I figured worse comes to worse she would be a sweet pleasure horse

My saddle is a 17.5" seat, I really really really dont want to go bigger. I will just have to lose the weight

I think she is a lovely horse and personally, I don't find her head large. It is just a "typical" warmblood head in terms of size and it actually seems to fit in quite well (proportion wise) with the rest of her body ...

You mentioned in one of your other threads that she had a leg injury almost right after you started working with her and that she has been on stall rest. Was it a front or rear leg?

From two of the pictures that you can see the angle in her, her stifle seems pretty straight to me. And in general, her hip and loin seem just not to be quite as developed as her shoulder. Some of the muscling though through the hindquarters will definitely come with work. Right now, she looks a wee bit "chunky" or maybe not "chunky," but at least undermuscled.

And I also think that you could potentially do quite well with her in the hunter ring. When she is fully recovered in another couple of months, I would love to see a picture of her jumping!

Yes, she did, but she actually she came in with a puffy leg, I was told by previous owner it was fungus. I was really concerned but she said that if it wasn't bothering her to ride her, so I did. After about a week of w/t/c her leg blew up, so I had an ultrasound done. Nothing was found, and she went on stall rest anyway, her leg is still puffy to me but there's nothing on the ultra sound and nothing the vet can see so we're just trying to bring her back into work verry slowly. Its the right hind leg, I think you can kinda see it in one of the pics.
It will be a while before she jumps though, which is fine cuz we could use the bonding time

I will definitely post some pics when I get some good ones! Maybe this weekend. I just got my horse about a month ago so I only have a head shot of him. A couple of people at my barn ride in CWD's and they seem to really like them. That might be my next saddle...currently I ride in a County.
