Critique Cody

This is Cody, aka Southern Special Te. He is a 3 yr old QH gelding. I purchased him this January as a stud colt. I showed him for his previous owner as a yearling and 2 yr old in hand local and aqha. I started showing him undersaddle this spring. He has competed mainly in WP, halter, showmanship, and trail courses.

pedigree: http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/southern+special+te

3yrs old

when I first bought him Jan 09

Fall as a 2yr old

Spring 2yr old

showing him as a yearling...

and a baby weanling pic for comparison...

overall... what do you think about him? I absolutely adore him, and I know I am biased... so I would like to hear what others think of him.

He's adorable, I love his face and coloring (after owning a almost all white horse, I envy horses with minimal/no white, haha).

I know you hadn't asked about this, but I'm just curious as to why you are riding him in a shanked bit two handed? He's only three, why not just keep him in a snaffle if you're still working on direct reining?

I'm not the best at critiquing, but I'd say he's filled out extremely well from when he was a weanling. He seems exceptionally calm and quiet for a 3 year old, most of the 3 year olds I know are demon horses Anyway, it's hard to tell from just pictures, but he seems like a solid young fella and has nice conformation.

Either way, he's absolutely stunning! Gorgeous horse, so beautiful!

Oh man, he is so cute and look what nice condition he's in. You can tell he's well loved and well cared for.

In terms of conformation, I'd say he stands pretty base narrow and appears sickle hocked and toed out behind. His pastern angles look a little upright and it appears he toes out up front too (actually looks like he turns out from the knee up front). He's also got a bit of that big body/small leg quarter horse thing going on (though not nearly as extreme as some). He's straight in the stifle behind.

LOVE his big booty, love his shoulder angle, love his neck tie in and his beautiful face with a kind eye. He looks like a horse you can't say "no" too. He's not perfect (what horse is?!) but he makes a really pleasing overall typey picture.

I do ride and compete with him in a snaffle... there were some gaming classes after our show that day... I decided to do some with him, and wanted a little bit more controll because at one point his previous owner had put 30 days of barrels on him, and I didnt know what I was going to get. We pratice in that curb at home when I need a little bit more reaction and when we are working on transitioning towards one hand. Most days thopugh he goes in a copper twisted wire and does great.

Thanks! he does have the little spindly halter legs and hooves... he isnt sickle hocked... more cow hocked, but he gets under himself great... he deffinately isnt perfect... but you are correct in every way that you cant say no to him. I traded my Impressive grand daughter for Cody. She was a mare that I wouldnt trade/sell for the world... so Cody pretty much meant the world to me.
