Angry Crazy insane colt!!!!

Their is this colt at my barn. He was just seperated from the mare. He acts like something is like attacking him or something!! You can walk by him and he freaks out! Other horses come around and he totally flips and charges them. He kicks the stall doors and whinnes non-stop!! Is this normal or could there be something wrong?

yeah thats pretty normal.. he is attached to the mare and thinks that you are seperating him from his buddy forever... just take the other horse away a little longer each day and then he will get used to it being away.. as long as you bring the horse back each time.

Sounds normal to me. He's throwing his "temper tantrum".

And don't let him get away with charging or kicking at you. NOT ACCEPTABLE even during a normal tantrum.

They need to let him out into a safe pasture with another young horse or a nice gelding that won't beat him up. If he can run around and see other horses, he will get over it faster. Poor boy.
Just thinking about me trying to wean my baby!!

Some foals will....."freak out" when you wean them from 'momma'. Other foals will winney a little and then....they dont mind too much. But yes, even with a horse that is very upset during the weaning process....don't let him/her get away with anything. Let them get away with it once, they'll know you did and try to continously after that. Giving him a buddy may help, as long as the horse(s) are in a safe environment...everything should go okay.

Well I think maybe that could be his problem. They never let him out of his stall. Not even to a round pin. I dont know what the deal is. I'll ask her and post what she says. horse_on
