Pretty much everyone I know that rides western uses a correction bit for WP, although a couple of people I know use a Tom Thumb. I use a regular grazing bit (that's what I call it). Stateline tack refers to it as a QH bit. Anyway, this is what I'm referring to.

i dont like those kind of bits because its not broken at the sides..meaning when you pull back the port jams into the top of the horses mouth...if the sides are broken and free moving(like the myler i posted first) then you can lift one side and push their shoulder over or keep their shoulder from dropping.

I know what you mean. Thats why I loved the spring loaded bits, but when APHA made them illegal becuase they had a "man made" mechanism in them i had to find another bit my horse loved. The spring loaded bits where so nice and really easy pick which shoulder

Wow! Im glad you posted that Cherazam! I had no idea the spring loaded bits were now illegal in APHA (maybe I should read the rulebook eh?). I almost bought one the other day..eeek!

I also agree with painthorses, those bits offer no give..I just dont like them. Doesnt mean they dont work for others though

These bits are good for when you don't need reins to drop a shoulder or move them in. Lucky rides well in it.

But mainly we use a Billy Allen:

Or this....depends which one is currently on my show bridle. He'll work in any of them with no fuss at all. Although he does love his Billy. Shotgun got me into them so I went and bought one. Good things to have when you ride off seat and legs and don't need any bit pressure.

I have some issues with this bit as far as I go. But, Lucky doesn't care about it, and I rode Hank in it also. None of my horses seem to dislike it any.

lol. I think they made the rule change final this year but im not positive. It was a shame, they were finally getting popular and well known. What I dont understand is when they are legal in AQHA but not APHA. Well they were, correct me if im wrong. lol. Anyone ever used one of those turbo lifters? they always looked really cool but I never try it.

Ha..I would hate to see Jakes reaction to a turbo lifter. As much as I want to try one I dont think I would come out of that ok..lol. Hes very particualr about his bits..thats why I liked the spring loaded shanks..they moved and were flexible which is what he likes. Darn APHA...

We use Myler bits on all of our horses, I personally like the new 7 Shank they have now. My favorite mouthpiece is a MB33 or MB LP43.

they do have some of the Robart ones that have the same motion as the spring loaded but dont have the spring inside. They work okay.
