Could this help

Cowboy has topped 1350lbs, and he knows it too!
My vet has mentioned I may want to use one of these with him, untill he understands I cannot be walked over.

Opinions?

a chiffney bit?

hmmm...possibly. However you can do a lot of damage to a horse with this.

But then again, so can a stud chain.....

I would defenetly get someone who knows how to use one to show you first! It can do alot of damage in the wrong hands!

What is the problem with your horse?

His problem is he is big and stubbern, he learned ahilw ago that he could do this....

That was way back when he was 1.5 years old.

He is good for the most part when you use a chain, but when he loses his focus, which can happen quickly.

Hes been haning out in a feild with inconsistant work for too long and it shows thru when he is worked with. He also has a short attention span and has gone from being a spookless horse to eveyrthing is scary but only when you work with me.

That is so funny my gelding is like that as well a bomb could go off in the feild with him and he wouldnt even bat a eye lid but he minute its time for work everything is terrifiying! A sighn of intellegence i feel!!!

Sounds like the chifney would help you get the control you need! Have you tried other control halters? The thin instant pressure ones i found very effective also a long line helps to keep you safe and give you leverage!!

I would definitely suggest some ground work and some respect from him before I would use any "gadgets". JMHO

I would caution on both...chain and chiffney. Use them wisely and sparingly.....while you work on the ground work...

And to be honest....I would REALLY STRESS that you seek professional help with this horse.

The thing with halters and him is he will just turn his head and stick his shoulder out to me, or he will just saunter off (or if he is really mad he will *trot* off).
He horrble in rope halters and as a youngster had a nasty injury from one (that was being used properly).

I agree with BW if he can pull through a chain i would be very wary of putting a chifney on him!!

You would probably benifit from getting a trainer who specializes in this kind of issue! Its best to stamp it out right now! He is at a funny age also where he is a bit like a teenager and any problems he has are exagerated!

Im sure it will all fall into place quickly!
