Could teeth be a reason?

The past few weeks, i've noticed Coco has been unwilling to cooperate with me and take the bit when i'm getting her ready to be ridden. The only reason I didn't think much of it until now was because some days she'd take the bit just fine and other days she'd put up a fight, so i thought it was just her being onery. There's a lady at our stable who will get Coco out for me when the vet comes and conducts a clinic if i can't be there at the stable that day.....well there was a clinic and i couldn't be there so the lady got Coco out for me. When i saw her the next day she said that the vet said that Coco's teeth were in BAD need of being filed down (like, to the point where the vet actually cut herself on Coco's teeth).

Could Coco's teeth being this sharp have had anything to do with her not cooperating with me and taking the bit? like, maybe they were sore or hurting her or something....?

(I feel really bad that Coco's teeth got to that point, but the other thing is that at the last clinic 6 months ago, the vet checked Coco's teeth and said they would need to be done soon and that they would come out another day and do it. Apparently they never did. Coco just got her teeth filed down today though, so maybe tomorrow there won't be any problems)

Absolutely teeth in need of being worked on can make her not want to take the bit. I would not try any more until her teeth are floated, and then because it sounds like they're in really bad shape I'd give her a few more days after that before asking her again.

I agree with JB 100%--Sharp teeth can cause bitting problems, and letting her mouth rest for a couple days will let any soreness pass.

I agree with this, if she was that bad, it may have may her a little sore, so wait a few days and try again. Best of luck to you!!

Yes, it could definately be a reason. Her mouth is probably pretty damaged if they were that bad. So give her some time for her mouth to heal.

ok this might be a stupid question, but how do i get back in there in her mouth and check and see if they came out to do her teeth like they said they would? supposedly the vet came out yesterday and floated her teeth - i couldn't be there, i had to work, so i don't know for sure. I'd have to get back there past where the bit goes, right?

she wasn't acting sore at all when i rode this morning - but then she never acts sore the day after anyway. I just want to be sure that the vet was actually there and did it like they said they would.

The only way you would know is if you knew the condition of her mouth before. If you check it and there are no sharp points then, unless he was lying about the original condition of her mouth, they have been floated.

well but i mean, i have to go way back behind where the bit goes in her mouth, right?? cause that's where the grinders are located, correct?

You would need to check all of the teeth.
