Could she not be pregnant?

My mare should be 2 mos pregnant. I never had her ultrasounded, as I don't have electric, and my vet doesn't have a battery operated one. However, she is VERY obvious when she is in heat, she didn't come back in so we figured we were good. Today when my boyfriend took the colt out of the field she came running up and tried to mount him.Which is odd to begin with but she hasn't done it since she was bred. When we were holding a horse in front of her field to trim her feet she went nuts, running the fence line, doing the lip curl, and even stopped to pee. So I thought maybe she wasn't pregnant or had lost it, but she shows no interest in my yearling colt, which she did before breeding..and he isn't showing interest in her. Is this some kind of weird hormone thing or do you think she might really come into heat?

I would suggest asking you vet. There are ways around you not having electricity to get her checked out.

Who knows and you'll never know for sure until you have her checked. Palpations work great and don't require electricity. Cheaper too. They could at least tell you if she has a follicle and at 2 months could tell you if she's preggers.

Vet told me 100 days to palpate her, so I will be waiting, I guess. I think I hope it is hormones, but if she is going to be weird while she is pregnant I won't be breeding her again.

My first mare I ever bred was checked in foal via palpation at 2.5 months very easily told at that. Don't know why vet couldn't check her as I said he could still feel for a follicle. Most mares are going to have weird attitudes while preggers just like when not preggers. At least all that I have seen.

Switch vets if this is what they told you!~ You do NOT need to wait 100 days to palpate! Change vets first and then second, you can always trailer out TO the vets where they do have power to perform an ultrasound.

It's kind of a long story about vets...I have been having loads of trouble, and there isn't anyone to switch to. I don't have a truck, so if it was an emergency I would have a pretty tough time getting her out..and this isn't an emergency, I just thought it was weird. It's really too late in the season to do anything about it. It has been really weird with her since she came back from the stud though. This is her first time being bred, and my first time breeding a maiden mare. I know people had said before that pregnant mares will mount other mares, but I didn't think she would mount a colt.

mmm if there isn't a reliable vet to switch to then i would move....of buy a truck and trailer.
every mare if didn't, every mare acts different...one of my minis.....she bred every 2 days for a month and when the vet was out she checked because this was "odd".....my mare was still OPEN...and dropping a follicle in 2 days.....vet said she would settle easiest out of all mares....well, she's still open....
